VIC EVENT – WorkFocus holds screening of ‘The Last Daughter’
In recognition of National Reconciliation Week, WorkFocus, alongside Medilaw, Cogent Thinking, and Access Psych, hosted an exclusive screening of the powerful documentary ‘The Last Daughter‘, at The Kino cinema in Melbourne on Wednesday, 31 May 2023.
Co-directed by Brenda Matthews, the film follows Brenda on a courageous journey of reconnecting with her Indigenous heritage and reconciling with the painful past of her family. It is a testament to the human spirit and the power of healing.
The screening event, attended by industry leaders, captivated everyone with its raw emotion and authenticity, sparking conversations about truth, reconciliation, and cultural understanding.
A highlight of the event was the Q&A session with Brenda herself. Where the audience had the privilege of hearing about her experiences during the filmmaking process and gaining insights into the importance of stories that promote empathy and understanding. As Brenda stated, “storytelling has the profound ability to bridge divides and cultivate empathy.” Her words resonated with the attendees, emphasising the significance of sharing and listening to stories for healing and reconciliation.
