Amanda England

WorkFocus was my first job out of uni. I graduated and applied for every job I could find. I had very little understanding of what vocational rehab was but researched enough to sound like I knew what I was getting myself into. I started the week after my interview and was employed as a Rehabilitation Consultant and Work Trial Canvasser. I remember my first client and how nervous I was, but also, I will never forget how appreciative they were to have been supported to find new employment. I knew I was going to stay around for a while as I loved the impact we could have on clients and also the staff in which we worked with.

‘it feels like I’m always progressing and evolving’

I have been at WorkFocus for 15 years, but I have held many positions both formal and informal, it feels like I am always progressing and evolving. It’s true that no two days are the same. The flexibility I have been provided meant that I was able to continue to study and obtain my Master’s in Clinical Psychology and also have a family, with two rounds of mat leave. The leadership team has always been my biggest supporters sharing both high and lows. Preparing for meetings with customers in which we knew there were going to be challenges, to the intense work on tenders – however there were many laughs in between. Many of the customers I work with today have shared the last 15 years of the journey too, starting as new grads together learning the ropes.

I have been given many wonderful opportunities to progress and learn and also experience many parts of Australia I never felt I would see and some I never will again. I have had the privilege to work in almost every office at some point in time.

There are so many aspects of WorkFocus that I enjoy and I’m excited for what the future holds! But so far, my highlights would be watching colleagues grow and progress within the business, friendships being made, staff supporting each other through good and challenging times, team building activities and the way in which everyone pitches in to help each other out.
